Product Details

The use of ceramics in Cambodia can be traced all the waz back to 5000 BCE. The ancient Khmers primarily created ceramics as vessels used for daily living - this included cauldrons, vases, storage containers, etc. Modern advancements in materials means that the use of clay vessels is rare, however you can still find traditional pots displayed and sold on oxcarts today, cushioned with straw for their journey over bumpy roads.

Our Terra Mug is handmade by a community of local potters using ancient Khmer creation techniques, leaving a piece of history in each unique piece. The piece has a built-in handle for grip and is glazed with white velvet giving it a rich two-toned aesthetic, and comes with a custom terrai logo hand pressed on the bottom. Its minimal look makes it a go-to staple mug for daily use.

The raw clay comes from the Kampong Thom province which is one of the main ports for pottery in the country. Once shaped, the eco-friendly porcelain is then fired at a high temperature, to 1300c in a traditional kiln. The terra mug is dishwasher safe and can hold up to 325ml of liquid.

The Terra Mug comes in beautiful woven bamboo packaging, woven in the Kampong Chhnang province by a community of female weavers. Repurpose this holder for bits and bobs.

As a handcrafted product, the beauty is that no piece is created identical. There will be slight variations in size, shape and colour, proof that the products are hand & human-made.
