Sericulture, or simply, silk farming, is deeply rooted in Cambodia’s heritage - production dates back to the 13th century. The nation is renowned for its unique Golden Silk produced from yellow silkworms. The Khmer Rouge period decimated the mulberry tree population - the food source of silk worms, and consequently a significant amount of knowledge and transmission was lost. Today, there has been a revival in silk production, however only 1% of the silk has been farmed locally, making the remaining 99%, imported silk. There are currently between 18,000-20,000 thousands weavers nationwide, and local production is made by smaller companies.

Each piece is hand-dyed using natural materials, giving each individual case character and flair. Raw silk is unique - it’s not like the regular smooth silk you know, as it uses threads from the outer layer of the cocoon. Let’s break it down a bit. Common silk is created from boiling the silkworm in its cocoon. Raw silk is crafted from the initial strands when the silk worm emerges into a beautiful moth. This is how it gets its natural and organic texture. 

The pillow covers are handmade by local weavers in the Siem Reap province and merge tradition and modernity, using traditional weaving techniques for these modern day accessories. The covers include a custom terrai tag sewn into the back closure. 

This product comes in beautiful woven bamboo packaging, woven in the Kampong Chhnang province by a community of female weavers. Repurpose this holder for your bits and bobs. 

As a handcrafted product, the beauty is that no piece is created identical. There will be slight variations in size, shape and colour, proof that the products are hand & human-made.

To ensure longevity, use PH neutral shampoo to wash the cases, and machine wash on low spin using cold water. Hang to air dry. When the fabric is about 85-90% dry, iron the case to maintain its texture.

The cream white pillowcase is no-dye, making this casing our most sustainable and neutral option.
